Bradley leads Tour Champ by 2

09/22/2011 - Atlanta, GA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Keegan Bradley fired a six-under 64 Thursday to grab a two-stroke lead after the opening round of the Tour Championship.

Bradley, a tour rookie, has won two events this year, including the PGA Championship at nearby Atlanta Athletic Club.

World No. 1 Luke Donald parred the 18th hole after a brief weather delay to post four-under 66. He was joined in second place at East Lake Golf Club by Jason Dufner, who lost to Bradley at the PGA Championship, and Chez Reavie.

Rain started to fall after the final groups made the turn. With two groups remaining, officials blew the horns to take players off the course due to threatening weather in the area.

After a 29-minute delay, the final two groups returned to the course to complete their rounds.

Charles Howell III, Matt Kuchar, Adam Scott, Hunter Mahan and Jason Day share fifth place at minus-three.

The players are not only jostling to win this championship, but also the FedExCup. Webb Simpson, who leads the race for the FedExCup, bogeyed the final hole to shoot one-under 69, which left him tied for 16th.

Several players are also trying to earn a captain's pick for the Presidents Cup. U.S. captain Fred Couples has stated he will take Tiger Woods with one pick, meaning there is one spot available to the remaining American players.

Bradley and Dufner are among those fighting for that last spot. Bradley is 20th on the points list, while Dufner is 14th. Brandt Snedeker and Bill Haas, Nos. 11 and 12 on the points list, are among those tied for 10th at two-under 68.

"I was joking earlier that the cliche is to say that I'm not thinking about it, but literally probably every third hole or maybe even less it pops into my mind," Bradley admitted. "I say it every time, I really want to be on the team, but I want to earn my way onto the team just like I'm going to have to. If the captain and assistant captains think I've done enough to get on the team, they're going to pick me. And if they don't, that's totally fair, too."

The top international players that are at East Lake and battling for one of Greg Norman's picks to the Presidents Cup are Aaron Baddeley and Vijay Singh. Baddeley is among those tied with Snedeker and Haas at minus-two, while Singh is in last place at four-over 74.

Bradley started his round with a hole-out birdie from a greenside bunker on the par-three second. After making four straight pars, the PGA Champion rolled in an 11-footer for birdie on the seventh.

The 25-year-old Bradley faltered to a three-putt bogey on No. 8, but quickly bounced back with a two-putt birdie on the par-five ninth.

Around the turn, Bradley sank a six-foot birdie effort on the 12th to get to three-under. After making a five-foot birdie attempt on No. 14, Bradley two- putted for birdie at 15 to gain the lead at minus-five.

Bradley pushed his lead to two strokes with a four-foot birdie putt on the 17th. He parred the last.

"It was a good day out there. I just felt comfortable right from the start," Bradley stated. "I made a bunker shot on the second hole, which kind of got me calmed down, and it just seemed to be easy today, and it seems to be easy when you play good golf. When you play bad golf, it seems hard. It was just a good day."

Donald traded a birdie for a bogey from the first. He poured in three birdies in a four-hole span from the eighth to get to three-under. After three consecutive pars, Donald birdied the 15th. He parred the last three holes to share second.

Dufner birdied three of the first four holes to quickly move to minus-three. He ran off 10 straight pars from the fifth before posting his final birdie on the par-five 15th.

"Good start to the day, three-under through four, so great way to start a tournament. Threw in a birdie late on the back," said Dufner. "Played okay, scored really well. Any time I was in trouble, I was able to make a par. A little disappointed with how I drove the ball today."

Reavie had the most inconsistent round. He birdied the fourth and sixth, but gave both strokes back with a double-bogey on the seventh. Reavie birdied three of five holes from the eighth to get within one of the lead.

The 29-year-old from Arizona faltered to a bogey on the 13th, but responded with birdies on the 15th and 16th to end at minus-four.

NOTES: Bradley's 64 matched a career-low on the PGA Tour...Jim Furyk, the reigning Tour Championship winner and FedExCup champion, failed to qualify...The top five on the points list -- Simpson, Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose, Donald and Kuchar -- can all win the FedExCup with a win this week.

2007 NFL Football Betting Preview

“You play to win the game!”

Those are the words of notoriously intense head coach Herman Edwards. Unfortunately, from a bettors’ perspective, most coaches don’t feel that way about the NFL preseason. August is a time to evaluate young players, finalize the depth chart and pray your star players stay healthy.

The trick to making money during the exhibition schedule is identifying coaches – like Edwards – who can’t stand losing even when there's nothing on the line.

The New York Jets betting won 15 of 21 preseason games and went 14-7 against the spread (ATS) during Edwards’s five-year tenure with the club. In his first season as the Kansas City Chiefs field boss, the team improved from 0-4 to 2-2.

Identifying win-a-holics like Edwards is a good start if you plan betting the preseason – even though most say you shouldn’t ... but what the hell do they know anyway?

Here’s a brief rundown of two teams that have a habit of winning during the second-stringers’ season, and another club that has a good chance of exceeding this year.

New York Giants betting lines

Playing in the media hub of North America can be stressful but the press can’t write anything negative about the way Tom Coughlin’s boys play in the preseason. The Giants won and covered all four games last summer, improving their record to 7-1 both straight up (SU) and against the spread over the last two years.

Coughlin has shown he’s not afraid to give his starters more time in the second preseason game than most of his colleagues, no doubt one of the reasons his team has been so dominant.

Dallas Cowboys betting lines

Bettors can count on America’s team early on. The Cowboys are 14-6 both SU and ATS since 2002 in warm-up contests. Former coach Bill Parcells, the coach of the team the last four years, has an intimidating, in-your-face presence – surely a reason Dallas has had so much early success.

The Big Tuna won’t be strolling the sidelines with looks of disgust, but new coach Wade Phillips will be anxious to make a good first impression for owner Jerry Jones.

Dallas plays the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos before things get serious. They then face the Houston Texans in their third contest (the game starters see most game time) and finish off with the Minnesota Vikings.

Expect a Dallas team able to walk away with another 3-1 preseason record.

Oakland Raiders betting lines

This team scored a league-worst 12 offensive touchdowns last season, so the rookies and veterans each have something to prove. There’s a bounty of first-unit jobs up for grabs and plenty of bodies competing for those slots.

First-time head coach Lane Kiffin will be eager to impress an owner who employs the philosophy, “Just win, baby!”

The 32-year-old Kiffin has to command respect from a locker room full of players older than him. All of these factors should lead to purpose in preseason.

Don’t forget: before playing like a team that belonged in NFL Europe, Oakland went 4-1 (both SU and ATS) in exhibition games.

MySportsbook.com favors Bears, Bengals, Chargers and Colts to remain perfect

LAS VEGAS , Sept. 28 - Two big match-ups of undefeated teams have fans salivating at the Week Four schedule in the NFL. The Chicago Bears stifling defense looks to provide a less than hospitable welcome to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in a battle of two 3-0 teams in the NFC conference. In the AFC, the San Diego Chargers (2-0) head to Maryland to face the surprising Baltimore Ravens (3-0) as both try to keep pace atop the conference standings. Betting Lines makers at MySportsbook.com, online sportsbook and casino, have set the Bears as 3.5 point favorites while the Chargers are a 2.5 point bet.

Of the three remaining undefeated teams, only one, New Orleans, enters this week's game as an underdog. Despite an emotional and resounding win over Atlanta on Monday night, the Saints are a 7.5 point underdog against the struggling Carolina Panthers. Indianapolis looks to stay perfect when they face the New York Jets as a 9 point road favorite while the Cincinnati Bengals are a 6 point favorite at home to the New England Patriots.

Six teams enter the week still looking for their first win, with a seventh, Tampa Bay, on a bye week. The prospect of dropping another game would not bode well for a potential playoff run. Since 1990, just three teams -- the 1992 Chargers, 1995 Detroit Lions and 1998 Buffalo Bills -- have overcome losing their first three games of the season to earn a postseason berth. And only the Chargers managed to accomplish the feat after starting 0-4.
