09/22/2011 - Delaware, OH (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Local three-year-old Big Bad John won Thursday's running of the 66th $526,800 Little Brown Jug at the Delaware County Fair. The one-mile pace is the second leg of pacing's Triple Crown.

Owned by Ed Telle and trained by local resident Ron Potter, Big Bad John is the first horse stabled year round at the Delaware Fairgrounds to win the Jug.

Big Bad John, driven by David Miller, won consecutive heats to lay claim to the Little Brown Jug crown. He won his elimination heat by just under a length in a time of 1:50 2/5 on the half-mile track. Winning the other elimination in the same time was Roll With Joe.

The first four finishers in each elimination advanced to the second heat.

Telle's colt left from the inside post in the second heat and proceeded to go to the front. He was challenged by North America Cup winner Up the Credit.

Big Bad John kept control of the race the rest of the way. At the wire he posted a length victory over Roll With Joe. Finishing third was Betterthancheddar winner of the Triple Crown's opening race the Cane Pace.

Completing the order of finish was High Noon, Something For Doc, Rollwithitharry and Up The Credit. Foreclosure N was scratched from the second heat.

Big Bad John covered the mile in 1:50 flat.

"I never thought there would be that much speed in the first turn," the winning driver said. "My horse got the job done and I was very confident at the three-quarters. This is always such a thrill to win this race. Most of all Im so happy for the connections that are a part of this horse."

Originally named Blank Canvas, Big Bad John earned $257,077 with Thursday's two wins. For the year the colt has won nine of 12 starts for $703,059 and has career earnings of just under $1 million.

Big Bad John returned $4.00, $2.60 and $2.10. Roll With Joe paid $2.80 and $2.40, and Betterthancheddar paid $2.40 to show.

The final leg of pacing's Triple Crown will be the Messenger Stakes at Yonkers on Saturday, November 12.

No Pan Intended is the last pacer, in 2003, to capture the Triple Crown. Miller was the driver of No Pan Intended to win the Jug and also claimed the race in 2008 with Shadow Play.
